September 22 is also World Carfree Day. The World Carfree Network, an organization dediated to promoting alternatives to car dependence and car-based city planning, established World Carfree Day in 2000. People in over 1,000 cities in 40 countries now celebrate by gathering in streets and intersections to celebrate what cities and public life would be without the “noise, stress and pollution of cars.”
